Russian geographer, zoologist, and political theorist (1842–1921) best known for his advocacy of anarchist communism. ALS signed “P. Kropotkin,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 3.5 x 5.5, December 28, 1900. Letter to Mr. Hutchinson. In part: “Thank you so heartily for your dear greeting. Yes, ‘life has roses’ when there are ‘unmet friends’ who remember of one and send him the sympathy of their mind across the distances...” Kropotkin also adds a postscript on the final page of the letter, signed “P.K.,” sending New Year’s wishes “of a century happier for mankind than the one we are going to part with.” In fine condition, with an old dealer’s label affixed to back of second page.
