Impressive collection of more than 45 original bookplates from a wide variety of historical figures, predominately from the 18th and 19th centuries, including: John Quincy Adams, sixth president of the United States; Massachusetts Colonial Governor Joseph Dudley; Beverley Robinson, commander to the Loyal American Regiment who provided his home as Benedict Arnold's headquarters; two from the Reverend Jonathan Boucher, a tutor to the stepchildren of and a close friend to George Washington; Edward Weld, husband to Maria Anne Fitzherbert, who secretly married King George IV; Charles Cornwallis, 1st Marquess, British General of the American Revolution; Charles Cornwallis, 1st Earl, father to the British General Charles Cornwallis; William Cornwallis, a Royal Navy Officer and brother to the British General Charles Cornwallis; two from Elias Hicks, a well-known traveling Quaker preacher who started the first major schism within the Religious Society of Friends; Union General George Meade, who defeated General Robert E. Lee at the Battle of Gettysburg; Yale College; and the New York Society Library.
