D. H. Hilliard, Cornish, New Hampshire marked percussion under hammer pistol with detachable shoulder stock circa 1850s. The pistol shows 11 and nearly ¼” heavy round to octagon barrel and is 16 ¼” overall without the stock attached. Thepistol measures 26 ½” with stock joined. The pistol is in approximately in .44 caliber with rifled bore. The metal surfaces remain in good condition with a light gray to brown patina finish and some scattered minor erosion and pinprickpitting. The engraving and markings on the barrel are fairly crisp. The stocks are very good plus showing brass and small shield shaped silver inlays on each side one of which is scratched inscribed “W” and the other is inscribed “H”. Thestocks show most of their original varnish with a crack near the bottom of the grip on each side. The stock shows a brown patina and is definitely genuine to this pistol. A very attractive American under hammer in nice condition by a well-knownmaker. Est.: $2000-$4000
