Don McCoy Match Tuned M1 Garand, receiver by Springfield, #4283302, .308 cal., 24'' barrel, parkerized finish, aluminized glass-bedded varnished birch stock, with Pachmayr quick-detach sling swivels at three positions. Butt trap cut out and plugged with cork. Hooded National Match rear sight, globe front sight, match tuned trigger group signed and dated 10/86. Barrel marked ''7.62 Nato'' with unitized front handguard attached. Built by the late Don McCoy in Santee, CA. Don built his rifles the ''Navy Way'' and as instrumental in 7.62x51 Garand development. Don worked for the Navy at the U.S. Small Arms Match Conditioning Unit at Camp Elliott. These rifles have a reported accuracy of 4'' or better at 600 yards. Don preferred tuning Garands, as according to hi, ''M14 (M1A) rifles are just too difficult to get to shoot well.'' Condition is excellent as match tuned showing only light wear in actioning areas, and only minor scuffs from range use to stock. With Don's recent passing, these rifles have become not only the ultimate Garand Match rifle, but a true collector's item as well. Est.: $2,000-$3,000. (C&R)
