Martially marked Winchester Hotchkiss First Model (1879) bolt action rifle, .45-70 cal., 32” barrel, full length wood stock, sling swivels, flared iron cleaning rod under barrel, #458 in overall good condition with traces of original blue in protected areas, balance of metal surfaces show a dark patina with scattered erosion, crisp action, good markings, bore should clean to good, V P and U.S. with eagle head markings on left side of barrel at breech with T inspection; H.N. inspections on top and front of bolt, wood is overall very good with scattered mars and scratches from storage, small oval plate on left side of stock missing from cut-out; circle P proof is good as is the ESA/1878 inspector’s cartouche on the left side of the stock; a very scarce martial piece that is hard to find in any condition.
