LOT OF TWO FRAMED GROUPINGS OF CUSTER BATTLEFIELD ARTIFACTS. Both frames are 15" x 12-3/4" with yellow velvet backing. The first frame consists of two Shako hat plates; a small brass U.S. marked padlock; eight excavated cartridge cases; three excavated bullets; an old square spike; a brass triangle shaped item that appears to be a horse blanket corner; a flag standard top; what may be an old drawer pull; and finally a repoussed brass item of a cluster of oak leaves. In the center is a small tag that states "RELICS FOUND AT SITE / OF FORT CUSTER". The other frame consists of eleven excavated shell cases; four excavated bullets; an iron arrowhead; part of an old square nail; a rectangular piece of iron; and the remains of a Winchester Model 1873 sideplate. In the center is part of an old postcard with two 3¢ stamps postmarked August 27, 1934 Topeka, Kansas and bears the address "F.T. Dexter / 910 Jefferson St., / Topeka, Kansas". These items all appeared as part of lot 7130 Butterfield's Auction November 9, 1988. CONDITION: As found with dark brown oxidized surface and in some cases with crusted soil. Overall generally good.
