Manufactured in 1911, this Colt Army Special revolver is fitted with a rare attachable shoulder stock/holster. These stocks fit all Colt large frame revolvers and the original patent papers show a Colt DA with a stock attached. It was patented in England on November 9, 1901 by W.P. Thompson and the Ideal Holster Company. The stocks double as a holster with a tubular sheet metal frame and leather holster in the center. The stock is marked "PATENTS/PENDING". In order to attach the stock special stock plates are needed which fit between the frame and normal grip panels. The inside, (or left side), of the holster has a large clip so that the holster can be used on a belt or clipped on. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address and the left side is marked "COLT ARMY/SPECIAL 38". The Rampant Colt and stylized "C" are on the left rear of the frame. Blade front and frame notch rear sights, high polish commercial blue finish and fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with "COLT" at the top and the stylized "C" around the screw.

Gauge: 38
Finish: blue
Grips: hard rubber
Serial Number: 336729
Condition: Excellent. The revolver retains 97% bright original high polish blue finish with some present high edge wear, a drag line on the cylinder and some thinning on the grip straps. There is a moderate chip on the right heel, a small chip on the right toe, otherwise the grips are very good with a few minor handling marks and crisp checkering. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent. The stock/holster is very fine with 75% plus of the original bright blue finish remaining. The very fine original leather holster shows some wear and minor flex cracking, with tight stitching. An excellent Colt Army Special revolver with a rare Ideal Patent shoulder stock/holster.
