(MGM, 1968) Gelatin-silver semi-gloss double-weight prints (48) ranging in size generally from 9” x 13” to 11” x 14”, and (7) from 5” x 7” to 8” x 10”, depicting director Stanley Kubrick and his cast and crew during production, on and off the set, of his 1968 epic film 2001:A Space Odyssey. Also, (1) color glossy double-weight 11.75” x 16” of a mockup “Paris-Match” magazine cover for 02/15/2001 of space-helmeted fashion model. Virtually none of these images has ever been published or even seen by anyone since the time of the film’s release, as this unique archive is attributed to having once been Kubrick’s own which he buried away in storage. Nine (9) of the larger format prints depict Kubrick specifically or include him in the image, and three (3) of the smaller ones do as well, with the rest showing Keir Dullea, Gary Lockwood, and other critical cast and crew members at work, primarily in the ship cockpit, the pod bay, and most revealing, the vertical turntable set and special camera used for rotating effects. The smallest print is stamp-dated June 30, 1966, and one of the large-format portraits of Kubrick is stamped on verso by photographer Dmitri Kessel of Time Life Press Agency; across the entire back of this print is hand-written (presumably by Kubrick himself) “ MUST NOT BE USED UNDER ANY CONDITIONS FOR ANY PURPOSE WHATSOEVER.” Clearly a body of significant images which have immeasurable wealth to the canon of film history.
