John Donaghy achieved some fame as a portrait & landscape painter during his lifetime 1838-1931. this original oil was painted during the American Civil war , and depicts a young Union soldier playing his mouth-harp while waiting for his troop train. It is framed in a 1920-1930's art nouveau style gilded frame . The frame itself is valuable , even though it shows normal wear & tear for it's age. the artwork was recently cleaned by professional art restorers. The frame is classically beautiful and should not be restored. Ship weight approx 18 lbs.
