Featured in this lot is this Yavapai Apache Yucca lidded basket circa 1940's. The basket features a wonderfully and professionally crafted yucca and natural dye construction that shows a lidded cylindrical design that shows naturally dyed sections of dark coloration with geometric patterns adorning the lid and the side walling of the basket. The Yavapai are a Native American tribe in Arizona. Their Yavapai language belongs to the Upland Yuman branch of the proposed Hokan language family. The name Yavapai comes from the Mojave language term Enyaéva Pai, translating as "People of the Sun". American settlers often mistakenly called the Yavapai "Mohave-Apache," "Yuma-Apache," or "Tonto-Apache". The condition of this lidded basket is well preserved with no obvious signs of damage and shows a well preserved overall condition. The measurements of this lidded basket is 4 3/8" x 6 7/8" x 6 7/8". The collective weight of this lidded basket is 6oz.
