Winchester Model 1866 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine

Manufactured in 1871. The carbine is equipped with a blade front sight which is integral to the front barrel band and a two leaf rear sight. The top of the barrel is re-marked with the two line address and King's improvement patent dates (re-stamped) ahead of the rear sight. The left side of the receiver at the breech is stamped with the number "77" and the left side of the receiver at the rear has a saddle ring staple with ring. The serial number and letters "DS" are stamped on the lower tang. Mounted on a smooth forearm and straight grip stock featuring a brass crescent buttplate with compartment (empty).

Good as restored with remarked barrel address. The carbine has a mottled brown patina with some light pitting. The brass receiver is fine and has a very attractive bright appearance. The replaced wood is good with some minor handling marks and the buttplate does not fit as it is slightly oversize. The pin holding the extractor to the bolt is loose which causes the action to not fully open when it is out of place.
