For your consideration is this Western Slick Fork Salesman Sample Saddle 1900's. This original saddlery shop salesman sample surely dates to the mid 1900's. The term “slick fork” classifies a fork that is widest at the bottom where the fork connects to the bar. Slick fork saddles otherwise known as A-fork saddles leave the front of the saddle open and provides comfort for long rides and freedom of movement for ranch work. This sample saddle would have been used to show off the countless options a saddle maker can contribute to the right custom saddle. Showing the type of harness the stirrups and latigo keepers are attached to. There is beautiful tooling to the fenders and seat jockey, as well as some interesting stitch work to the seat. This particular sample shows tapadores and depictions of many of the extra amenities this saddle would be complete with. The saddle is stamped Mexico under the left stirrup. The measurements of this sample saddle are 10" long x 8" wide x 12" fender to horn.
