This is an excellent example of a Weimar era DWM police luger that was later reissued during the early Nazi era. These early lugers are sometimes termed sneak lugers due to the lack of any proof or acceptance marks. These were manufactured during the 1929-1933 time frame using a combination of both WWI and new Mauser production parts. This example has the blank chamber with the DWM logo on the front toggle. The left side of the barrel extension, frame rail, top of the breech block and the underside of the barrel, are all marked with a single Crown over "N" Commercial proof. The full serial number is located on the front of the frame and underside of the barrel with the last two digits on the various small parts. The top of the side plate has the sear safety bar and the front grip strap is marked S.D.I. 316, indicating police issue in Dusseldorf. It has the unmarked nickel plated magazine with the aluminum base that is numbered to the pistol (1/8616/Eagle L proof) and has a spare unmarked blue "P08/fxo" magazine with an aluminum base.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue/straw colors
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 8616r
Condition: Very fine with 90% of the faded arsenal dipped blued finish overall with wear on the edges and high spots, with some browning and oxidation on the rear grip strap. The grips are in very good condition with even honest wear across the tops of the checkering, especially on the left grip panel. This Luger has matching numbers, to include the one magazine, except for the breech block (numbered 49) and one grip which is unnumbered. A nice example of an early WWII Nazi police issue luger pistol.
