Wedgwood by Harry Barnard Queensware Handled Ewer Vase, ca. 1900
This Queensware handled ewer vase was produced by Wedgwood and decorated by Harry Barnard, circa 1900. The vessel features a tall, slender tapering neck, a bulbous body, and a pedestal foot. Two prominent gilded handles in a naturalistic twig-form join the neck to the shoulder. The decoration is arranged in three horizontal registers. The neck and the lower portion of the body are finished in a deep cobalt blue glaze with raised white slip-trailed floral and foliate motifs. The central section of the body features an off-white crackle glaze decorated with gilded feather-like patterns. The base of the cobalt section displays heavy gold sponging. The underside of the foot is impressed with the Wedgwood mark and is signed H. Barnard. The base retains two labels: a circular silver provenance sticker from the Rubin Collection and a dealer sticker with the notation UKG-26 and a date of circa 1900.
