This exquisite shamrock chain dates prior to the 1850?s and it is something to behold! Victorians used symbols like this to depict luck or memoriams. The obvious reason why the four leaf clover should be considered lucky is its scarcity. Some people have estimated that only one white clover leaf in 10,000 has four leaves. The leaves of the clover are sometimes associated with various gifts, for example Faith, Hope and Love. The fourth leaf - which is usually smaller . THe story behind the gate bracelet is one of romanticism. When a sweetheart went off to war, he would like to keep his sweetheart from the arms of another so he would give her a beautiful bracelet to which he would keep the key. If this was on his loved one?s wrist, others would know she was in a relationship and was to be avoided. The only way the bracelet would come off would be for her real sweetheart to unlock it once he came back from war. This bracelet is gold filled and measures 6? long when clasped. This padlock has no key as it has a sliding bar on the arm which slides back to open. I was told it was made as copy of the real one so they deceiving sweetheart could take it off to continue her trysts. The original bracelet would have been taken off by a locksmith and kept in a safe place until her lover would return. SEE.. Women can be SMARTER than you think! HA! Gold has gentle vintage wear. The front of the lock is rose gold filled and the back is yellow gold filled.
