Vintage Manual Race Rocks B.C. Lighthouse Foghorn
What a fine piece of maritime history is offered in this lot. This is a manual foghorn taken from the lighthouse at Race Rocks, BC Canada. Race Rocks is one of the first two lighthouses that were built on the west coast of Canada, financed by the British Government and illuminated in 1860. It is the only lighthouse on that coast built of rock, (granite) purportedly quarried in Scotland. The foghorn was made by Powers Brothers Limited of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. This manual fog horn was placed high on a tower to be used by hand. These foghorns were used up until the 1950 and then kept for emergency use well into the 1990's. The copper and brass fixtures show very good care as was necessary in the ocean air climate. This foghorn is in working order. This fog horn measures 28" long by 14 1/2" wide and 29 1/2" tall.
