Lot of 3. Two “Owens Illinois” white ceramic apothecary jars with gold trim and designs, labeled “Nux/ Vomica” and “Bella-/Donna”. 10” tall by 4” wide. Nux Vomica, also known as strychnine, was used historically as a stimulant. Strychnine poisoning is perhaps the most painful form of poisoning, causing vomiting, seizures, and paralysis. Belladonna was used to treat a variety of conditions, including headaches, nausea, and muscle pain; however, it also caused terrible hallucinations. This lot also includes a beautiful dark cobalt bottle, with a matching glass cork, with a gold label that reads “Ol. Tanacet.” The open pontil indicates that this bottle was made by hand, likely in the 1860s. Ol. Tanacet, also known as feverfew, was used to treat headaches and nausea. - Jacobitz Collection -59789
