UNITED STATES:AE medal (197.4g), [19]73, Unc, 61mm uniface bronze medal depicting Buffalo Bill Cody by Glenna Goodacre, uniformed bust right with prominent trademark wide-brimmed hat, selectively darkened finish, © GOODACRE '73 2/3 on edge, RRR, ex Jerry D. Williams Collection. Glenna Maxey Goodacre (born August 28, 1939 in Lubbock, Texas) is a sculptor best known for having designed the obverse of the Sacagawea dollar that started circulating in the United States in 2000, and the Vietnam Women's Memorial located in Washington, D.C. Goodacre's art appears in public, private, municipal and museum collections throughout the U.S. Her bronze sculptures feature lively expression and texture. Her most well-known work is the Vietnam Women's Memorial installed in Washington, D.C. in 1993. After a nationwide competition for a Sacagawea dollar coin design in 1999, Goodacre’s rendering for the face was unveiled at the White House by then First Lady Hillary Clinton. Glenna Goodacre retired from sculpting in 2016.
