UNITED STATES: AE medal (162.1g), 1912, Unc, 76mm bronze medal for John Hay by Victor David Brenner for the Rowfant Club, bearded bust left with JOHN HAY - THE ROWFANT CLVB CLEVELAND OHIO around on wide rim // female figure seated left with globe on desk and map scroll showing China on her knee with OPEN DOOR IN THE FAR EAST on wide rim around, patina in brush strokes, as is typical for these, stamped "68" on edge, with a total mintage of 170 pieces, in original plush box, R. John Hay was the 37th U.S. Secretary of State. He negotiated the Open Door Policy with regard to China, such that all nations would be able to trade with China on an equal basis. The medal was designed by Victor David Brenner, who is famous for designing the Lincoln cent. Photo size reduced.
