This is a Belgian and German proofed wonderfully engraved antique side by side shotgun chambered in 12 gauge. The shot gun has a silver badge that is marked from the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs (B.I.A.) Police and shows three brass covered iron shanks with a brass mounted running Great American Bison at the center. The shotgun shows a fully engraved lock plate receiver (on all sides), engraved trigger guard, checkered exposed side hammers, engraved barrels, engraved center rib and engraved top lever. The exposed side hammers show a wonderful case-hardened finish with the receiver having much of the original blue finish. The barrels show much if not all the blue finish in fine condition with some signs of use. The wood foregrip shows engraved metal throughout and checkering. The solid hardwood stock shows a straight grip with checkering, a hard rubber butt plate, marked “4 29 4”, and the “U.S. BUREAU OF INDIAN AFFAIRS POLICE” badge on the right side. The both sides of the receiver are marked, “Machine Made Gentaure Gun Safety Action”. Each barrel is marked on the top rear, “Fluss Stahl Fein / Le Centaure” with an engraved round medallion having a pictorial prancing Centaure (half-man half-horse) image. The underside of the barrel shows the following proof marks: “EL” script Belgian Liege proof mark used since circa 1852, the black powder Belgian Liege “ELG (star)” in an oval with a crown hall mark used since 1893, the proof mark for Le Perron Belgian Liege from 1811-, star over “AM”, diamond surrounding “12 C”, P.N surrounded, “CHOKE 17.4”, “18.2”. The ourside of the left barrel is marked, “FULL CHOKE” and the right barrel “FAND HANQUET LIEGE”. Several early shotguns have sold with authentic and spurious provenance and markings to the U.S Bureau of Indian Affairs such as the Whitney-Kennedy Rifle with the same badge that sold for $2,250 at the Guernsey’s 7/17/2013 sale, the Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Shotgun with Indian Police Badge that sold for $7,800 at the North American Auction Co. 9/30/2017 sale, and the U.S. Standing Rock Shotgun with Indian Police Badge that sold for $4,500 at the North American Auction Co. 6/3/2017 sale. The shotgun measures 36.75" long with 20" barrels. Serial number is 8682. The firearms exact date of manufacture is unknown and could possibly be from the late 19th Century to early 20th Century. This firearm requires a Curio & Relic FFL, an FFL Transfer or a NICS Background Check. Badge believed to be a latter addition to the firearm. Please review the pictures for originality and condition.
