Two (2). Canadian. 1940s. "Elco" and "Miner's Special". Cases: Nickel silver. 16 size (43mm movement diameters). Each pendant set. The Elco watch was made (assembly of dial, case and movement) by Levy Brothers Co. Ltd. Hamilton, Ontario for the Canadian railroad. The Levy Brothers were Jewish immigrants from Alsace Lorraine who settled in the 19th century in Canada. They had a jewelery business. This watch is in functionality, appearance, size, weight and accuracy very similar to the 992B but it is more reliable in harsh working environments due to its Incabloc shock protection. The "Miner's Special" example would have a similar story, although we could not find information on its history. The Elco watch runs and stops. The Miner's Special watch does not run and has an uncoiled hairspring. Running watches have not been tested for timekeeping accuracy and may require adjustment. The fact that a watch has been described as "running" provides no guarantee of its ability to continue to do so.
