Featured in this lot is this Tombstone pair of Mattatuck Leg Irons circa early 1900's were displayed in the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum; Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona. Stamped patent dates are slightly visible, December 1902. This pair of handcuffs presents with their original keys and connecting heavy duty chain. This pair of nickel plated handcuffs was manufactured by the Mattatuck Manufacturing Company, The company was organized in 1886 in Waterbury, CT, and was a notable producer of brass and wire goods, including handcuffs and leg irons. Their restraints were widely used by law enforcement and even by the magician Harry Houdini for his escape acts. The company's handcuffs from the late 19th century are now rare collector's items. The condition of this pair of handcuffs is well preserved with no obvious signs of damage to the handcuffs, wear consistent with age but otherwise shows a well preserved condition. The measurements of this pair of handcuffs open is 8" x 4.75" x 1.25". The collective weight of this pair of handcuffs is 2lb 12oz.
