The lot features an exceptionally rare Thomas Turner & Co. Sheffield multiple blade woodsman tool knife dating to the 19th Century. The knife shows a total of eight tools including the main large knife, secondary smaller knife, shoe button hook, bleeder blade, awl round punch, corkscrew drill bit and removable double blade small knives. The knife shows a set of nice steer horn grips with silver inlaid rectangular panel. The slide out two knife set which is inserted in the base of the knife is framed in rare Tortoise shell. The knife is marked by the maker Thomas Turner & Co. Sheffield along the main knife, secondary knife and button hook is marked as well. Thomas Turner & Co. was founded in 1802 by the namesake who later passed away in 1845. After his death the business was passed to his eldest son by the same name. This example also is marked Encore on the button hook, a trademark owned by Turner and granted in 1805. This example is thought to date to circa 1805-1860’s and is possibly the finest multi-blade woodsman tool example ever offered for sale from this era. A smaller later example of a Thomas Turner & Co. multi-blade knife was offered by Michaan’s Auction in 2013 with an estimate of $2,000-$3,000. Overall when closed the knife measures 5.5”L, length with main blade extended is 9.75”L. Main blade is 4 3/8”L, secondary blade is 1 5/8”L, bleeder is 4.5”, awl is 1 7/8”L, drill is 2 3/8”L, button hook is 2.5”L. The small slide out knife set shows 1 5/8”L blades.
