Contains articles related to early California history, politics, mining, exploration, society, and leisure. An important historical work. 384 pages. Good condition. 6 x 9 inches. Contains the first publication of the famous Dame Shirley letters (23 of them) that she wrote to her sister in Massachusetts from her experiences in the Feather River’s Rich and Indian Bar diggings during 1851-2. The 1855 volume contains letters 12-23.
