Lot of 3. 1) Wyandotte Silver Mining Co. Incorporated July 25, 1878. Cert. #438 issued June 15, 1880 to E.C. Knight for 1000 shares. Signed by Secretary Pullinger and Vice President Thomas Cochran. Tem Piute mining district was organized a few months after silver was found in 1868. Mining remained difficult due to a lack of water in the region. Water had to be hauled in from springs 12 miles away [Paher, Nevada Ghost Towns & Mining Camps, 1973]. 9.25" x 4". 2) Silver Dale Mining Co. Incorporated in Nevada, 1921. Cert. #861 issued Dec. 7, 1921 to Mortimer L. Cohen for 100 shares. Signed by Secretary H.L. Gillman and President J.L. Whipple. U/C. 3) Groom Southend Mining Co. Incorporated in Nevada. Cert. #105 issued Oct. 12, 1916 to Wm. Armstrong for 25,000 shares. Signed by secretary [illegible] and President Wm Armstrong. U/C. Mining started in Groom in the 1860s but its remote quality at the western edge of Lincoln County made shipping a challenge. Mining ceased soon after it started but picked up again in the early 1900s [Paher, 1973]. Both Tem Piute and Groom lie within 80 miles of Pioche, NV but show significantly diverse ore bodies. While the more isolated Groom was mainly known for its silver and lead, Tem Piute prospered again during WWII mainly due to its high grade tungsten ore [Paher, 1973]. Prior to this finding, Tem Piute also saw significant silver ore noted by the incorporation of the Wyandotte Silver Mining Co. that shipped quantities for processing to nearby Crescent. The dismantling of the ten-stamp mill there all but halted mining here until the later findings of tungsten in 1916.
