An early Superman comic book character appeared in print in 1943, in a World War II era Armed Forces magazine strip called SuperSam. SuperSam was created by two GI’s during the War: Ben Bryan and Jerry Siegel. Jerry Seigel and Jerry Schuster had created the Superman character a decade before and sold the rights to DC Comics in 1938. But the Man of Steel was penned again duiring the War , as SuperSam, by writer Jerry Siegel and Ben Bryan . Seigel and Schuster had by then sold the rights - for a paltry sum. But before it all became famous , this 15x13" original artwork was the origin for SuperSam. First published in the GI magazines, this original ink drawing is the only surviving artwork from the very limited edition SuperSam comics , and thus a rare classic that any "Superman"/Jerry Siegel collector would relish owning.
This is the original artwork , not a page from the comics. It was given by artist Ben Bryan to his artist son , Michael Bryan; and has been in Michael’s collection since his father passed away in 1975. It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Michael Bryan and a B&W photograph of Ben Bryan & Jerry Seigel, taken during WWII.
