Staggs, Sari (B. 1941) Chief Yellow Feather c 1998
For your consideration is this 1998 watercolor, by artist Sari Staggs, called Indian with yellow feather; or Chief Yellow Feather. Ousamequin ("Yellow Feather") was Chief (Sachem) of the Wampanoag people that welcomed the Mayflower landing party at Plymouth in 1620. Sari Staggs is noted for her large-scale, colorful, and stylized watercolor paintings. Steeped in the lore of the Native American culture, Staggs has allowed her own life philosophy to become entwined with theirs and has spent years representing the Native American people, their dwelling places, and artifacts in her paintings. The water color shows a colorful arrangement of a Native American Chief with trade blanket and a single yellow feather adorning his headband. The condition of this watercolor is good, with no obvious signs of damage; it is framed in a professional museum quality grade display glass and stained softwood frame. The measurements of this framed watercolor are 39 1/2" x 39 3/4" and the visible art measures 28" x 28 1/2".
