The lot features a unique twist-cut wood stem and catlinite pipe bowl from the Southern Plains Native American Indians of the early 1900’s. The piece shows a pipe bowl that measures 5.75” long by 3” tall and is hand carved of red Minnesota pipestone, also known as catlinite or pipe stone. The pipe bowl, in a “T” form, has a few mottled specks of pinkish orange catlinite showing through on the left side with no breaks, racks or repairs. The ash wood stem is artfully carved in a high relief “twist” or “twisted” form with old yellow and blue mineral paint and some brass tacks as adornment. The stem measures 19 inches in length and has a few wraps of old masking tap on the insert tip to aid in holding the bowl tight, a common old collection museum practice. The piece shows some nice honest signs of age and use and is in good condition. Connected the piece measures 23 inches in length.
