The lot features a fantastic original authentic bow and arrows set from the Sioux Native American Indians dating to the 19th Century. The bow shows a hand carved solid wood that has been scraped, bent and notched at the ends. The bow has various file branded accents, which have worn over time. Also included are two authentic matched arrows which show a cut iron tip which is attached via a sinew wrap and accented by a dark mineral pigment ocher paint. At the base of each arrow shows remnants of the original feather fletching and sinew wrap which culminates in the hand carved notched nock. The set is thought to date to circa 1850-1880 and is in fine original condition. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery. The set shows well preserved museum quality condition. The bow measures 32.75”L x 1.25”W and 3/8” thick at the widest spot. The arrows are 33”L and 31 5/8”L respectively. These truly are fantastic Indian Wars era originals with exceptional provenance.
