Sioux Fully Top Beaded Hard Soled Moccasins c1890
The lot features a fine set of hard soled, Indian tanned hide moccasins with fine geometric beadwork from the Sioux Native American Indians of the early 1900’s. The moccasins show a hard rawhide parfleche base, with heavy foot worn patina, that is sinew sewn to the Indian tanned hide tops, which are artfully adorned with glass trade seed beads in a traditional geometric pattern. The beads are in colors of red, chalk white, blue, and butterscotch. The beadwork is sewn with sinew, as well, and shows a nice tight pattern with slight bead loss. Overall, the set shows a dark patina from use, along with slight bead loss and tearing/ separation minimally. Provenance: From a large American Indian weapons and beadwork collection in Billings, Montana. Each measures 7”L sole by 3”W by 2.5”H heel.
