This is a wonderful expertly hand-carved set of four napkin ring holders from the Sioux Native American Indians from the 19th Century. The lot contains four catlinite pipestone napkin ring slides or neckerchief slides with outstanding carved American Bald Eagle claw talon crasping at a cylindrical tube. All four pieces have differing styles and levels of expert carving with some immense detail. All four of these date to the 1800’s and are very well preserved in good condition. The catlinite has a nice light pink to dark red coloring. Provenance: From the private family collection of Sarah Alling of Helena, Montana. The family collection of Sarah Alling, a 5th Generation Montanan, began in the 19th Century and has grown since. Along with being an avid collector herself, Sarah co-founded with Bruce VanLandingham Sundog Fine Art of Bozeman, Montana which was both part museum and gallery. The largest of the napkin rings measures 5”L and approximately 2”W.
