Sioux Fully Beaded Game Ball Early 1900's
The lot features a nice fully beaded game ball from the Sioux Native American Indians and dating to the first to second quarter of the early 1900’s. The ball shows an Indian tanned hide construction which is presumably filled with a horsehair and buffalo hair padding. The piece is fully beaded in a traditional geometric design showing all early glass trade seed and petit beads in greasy yellow, sky padre light blue, cobalt, brass, and dark red. The Indian tanned hide shows a sinew sewn construction and the beadwork shows trade cotton thread. Overall the game ball is in good condition with very little bead loss. These fully beaded game balls, popular during the Indian Reservation, are becoming increasingly rare and desirable in todays collecting market. Provenance: From an old New Haven, Connecticut American Indian collection. The piece measures overall 3.5”x3.5” by 2.75” D.
