Sioux Feathered Beaded Headdress
This is an excellent feathered headdress from the Lakota Oglala Sioux Indians of South Dakota from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The war bonnet headdress shows a leather cap with old trade felt cap lining and is covered with a turkey feather design with red stroud wrapped tied ends. There is a beautifully beaded brow band with colors of chalk white, cobalt and red. There are ermine skin hides, strips of trade clothe and hawk trade bells. In classic Sioux headdress form the ends of some of the feathers have a hoof glued spot, painted finish and fringe of red and yellow dyed horse tail hair. There is some minor deteriotion of a few of the feathers but overall well kept. There is a beaded tie strap and the piece comes with a museum desk display stand. Provenance: From the ex-Tom Hardy Indianapolis, IN collection. Men’s headdress.
