Sioux Beaded Hide Tipi Possible Bag c. 1880
This is an outstanding circa 1880’s beaded hide tipi possible bag from the Sioux Native American Indians. The bag shows an Indian tanned hide construction with sinew sewing adorned with all period correct 19th Century glass trade seed cen beads and rolled tin jingle cones holding red dyed horse tail hair. The beadwork has a fantastic traditional geometric linear pattern in greasy yellow, red white heart, greasy blue, cobalt, medium green and chalk white. This is truly a phenomenal authentic example showing nice original patina from many years of age and use. This 1880’s example shows some slight bead loss and with slightly dried top flap, but predominately is in very well-preserved supple condition. Provenance: From a fine American Indian antiques collection in Bozeman, Montana. Overall the bag measures 26”x16.5”.
