The lot features a superb beaded doll with accoutrements from the Sioux American Indians with excellent 19th Century beadwork. The doll shows an Indian tanned hide construction which appears to be Antelope / Pronghorn hide with period correct calico trade clothe war shirt, blue wool trade clothe vest, red stroud wool trade clothe loin clothe and outstanding fringed and beaded leggings. The doll shows all sinew sewn 19th Century period correct glass trade seed beads in chalk white, cobalt, light blue, medium green, red white heart, greasy yellow along with a strand of blue wound glass pony beads. The doll is shown holding a set of extra fully beaded moccasins with Buffalo track design and a long fringed yellow ocher dyed beaded pipe bag. The chest has a breast plate which is in the design of bone hair pipe beads made of Czechoslovakian bugle tube beads which match the earrings which are accented by mother of pearl drops. At the chest is a round Indian tanned hide covered parfleche war shield having a polychrome bear claw symbol painted design. The dolls also show Great American Bison Buffalo hair in a braid with a ponytail of red ocher dyed hair and porcupine quilled drop. Provenance: From the private family collection of Sarah Alling of Helena, Montana. The family collection of Sarah Alling, a 5th Generation Montanan, began in the 19th Century and has grown since. Along with being an avid collector herself, Sarah co-founded with Bruce VanLandingham Sundog Fine Art of Bozeman, Montana which was both part museum and gallery. Overall measures 16”H x 10”W with a custom museum stand that is 11.75”H x 4”W x 3”D.
