Sheryl Bodily (Montana 1936) Original Oil Painting
This is an original work of art oil on canvas by Sheryl Bodily showing an American Indian Chief on horseback with his War Party at his back. The painting shows a large size and is set in the Montana and Idaho western landscape showing various Native American Indian Warriors and Chief on horseback, likely of the Crow, Sioux, or Blackfeet tribe. The scene most likely depicts a Chief coming to negotiate or welcome his foes with his War Party also on horseback at the Butte or Cliff back for protection. Sheryl Bodily was born in Boise, Idaho in 1936 to a family of five children and was son to a farmer. He recalls moving six separate times as a child for farming work, countless farming chores and having the hobby of collecting arrowheads and artifacts in the Rocky Canyon near Meridian, Idaho. Later he was considered a Montanan being a resident of Columbia Falls, Montana. Bodily has won countless awards and Best of Show with his works being widely collectible. This work comes out of a large Livingston, Montana collection and is signed in the bottom left “BODILY” typical of other works by the artist. This is truly a wonderful masterpiece showing fine detail and telling a wonderful story of the Old West. This example shows a larger size and greater detail than most examples offered by Bodily. Canvas measures 24”x30” and the frame is 29”x35”.
