Sergei Korolev Signed Photograph of Russian Space Dogs Belka and Strelka, 8" x 6.5", mounted on card stock. The photo is inscribed (in Russian), "Before the launch. Yours, S. Korolev". Light smudging of the ink, else near fine. Korolev was the head Soviet rocket engineer and designer during the Space Race in the 1950s and 1960s. The dogs spent a day in space aboard Korabl-Sputnik-2 (Sputnik 5) on August 19, 1960 before safely returning to Earth. They were the first Earth-born creatures to go into orbit and return alive. Strelka went on to have six puppies. One of the pups, Pushinka, was presented to President John F. Kennedy's daughter Caroline by Nikita Khrushchev in 1961.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
