This is a nice example of a scarce "480" code P38 pistol. The left slide of the side is marked with "P.38/480", (early wartime code indicating production at the Walther factory), followed by the serial number 6081. The right side of the slide has a single eagle firing proof, in between two "Eagle/359" Waffenamt acceptance proofs. The left side of the trigger guard bow has the early "480" code markings. It is correctly marked with the full serial on the front barrel lug, the left side of the slide and frame. The locking block is marked "081" and has the correct firing proof mark on the bottom. The "eagle/359" is marked on most of the parts. It is fitted with a set of dark brown ribbed plastic grips, correctly marked with three mold marks on the back sides with the top mold mark having the grip makers logo intertwined with "zs/38", next is the last three digits of serial number "456" over a single Eagle/359 Waffenamt proof over the last mark of "P1528/1". The lower left side of the magazine is marked "P38" with two "eagle/359" proofs on the lower spine with the right side stamped with serial number "4837a".
BBL: 5 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue
Grips: brown plastic
Serial Number: 6081
Condition: Very good as arsenal/importer refinished with 95% of the blue remaining with minor edge and high spot wear overall. The markings are clear and distinct with nice sharp edges and flats. The barrel is a renumbered replacement. The original grips are near excellent with only minor handling marks or scratches on the right side. The pistol has all matching numbers except the magazine, which is probably from an early AC-41 P38 pistol. The action needs adjustment as the hammer will not stay cocked. "480" code P38's are rare in any condition!
