The lot features an exceptional set of early Santee Sioux Native American Indian beaded moccasins dating to circa 1880-1890. The moccasins show an Indian tanned Rocky Mountain Elk hide construction with thick Great American Bison Buffalo hide parfleche soles sewn with sinew having a mid-height Indian tanned hide ankle. The front of the moccasins shows excellent petit glass trade seed beads in semi-transparent, semi-transparent Cheyenne pink, Cheyenne pink, black, cobalt, greasy yellow, butterscotch yellow, sky padre blue, red white hearts and chalk white. The beadwork pattern is in a wonderful traditional geometric floral combination, a style almost exclusively found on Santee Sioux and other Eastern Sioux pieces. The original hide ties are still intact, a wonderful rare addition. Provenance: From a Manheim, Pennsylvania collection. These are truly an excellent set of beaded moccasins that have been well preserved in good condition. Each shows a 10 inch sole and 6 inch high ankle.
