For your consideration is a First Edition copy of "Sand" by Will James. The book was published in 1929 by Charles Scribner's Sons located in New York and London. Illustrated from drawings and paintings (mostly full-page including frontispiece) by Will James. (8vo) original decorative green cloth, stamped and lettered in black, 3¾" red stamped line on front cover, pictorial jacket. First edition, with corresponding dates on title page and copyright page and only three lines of print on the copyright page. This is a story about "sand"--The gumption it takes to tackle the challenges of life. Set in the high plains, the characters are cowboys and horses. And the heart of the story is the hero's long duel with the black stallion and how "the little grain of sand within him" starts to grow. Will James (1892-1942), artist and writer of the American West, was born Joseph Ernest Nephtali Dufault. It was during his creative years everyone grew to know him as Will James. During the next several years, he drifted, worked at several jobs, was briefly jailed for cattle rustling, served in the army, and began selling his sketches and in 1922 sold his first writing, This is a First Edition copy that measures 6" W X 8 1/4" L.
