Reno,NV - Washoe County - c1890 - Hotel, Riverside and the Virginia Street Bridge Photograph :
Historic photo of the first Riverside Hotel and Reno’s first iron bridge. Photograph measures 4 5/8”x3 5/8”, no matte, low contrast—faded, and is sharp—though focus is also affected by fading. In this photograph a horse and stage stand in front of the Riverside Hotel. A woman is walking in front of the Hotel and two men are on the Virginia Street Bridge. This is a nice piece of Reno history. The Virginia Street Bridge was built in 1877 and moved to Rock Street in 1905. Prior to the building of the iron bridge several wooden bridges had been destroyed by flooding. The Riverside Hotel sits on the site where Charles W. Fuller built his log cabin to service miners and administer his toll bridge during the “Rush to Washoe”. Myron Lake purchased the property in 1861 and operated Lake House and Lake’s Crossing until his death in 1884. The property passed to his daughter and she renamed the hotel to Riverside. It was taken down in 1907.
