Two items: a program for a 1939 performance of Robert E. Sherwood’s Abe Lincoln in Illinois, 8.75 x 12, 12 pages, signed on the front cover in fountain pen; and a matte-finish 8 x 10 photo of Massey on stage as Lincoln, signed and inscribed in black ballpoint, “With all good wishes to Mr. Bean’s class, Raymond Massey, 1972.” In overall fine condition, with slight creasing to left edge and scattered rubbing and light soiling to covers of the program. Accompanied by an unsigned broadside for the play, promoting its two-week run beginning on October 23, 1939. Massey earned a Best Actor Oscar nomination for his reprisal of the role in John Cromwell’s 1940 film adaptation.
