It was painted at an early date, as evidenced by the "Robt. Wood" signature.

Wood developed a degree of fame and recognition independent of an extensive museum exhibition record. His art was for the common man. He ignored the move away from traditional realism in American art and stayed true to his vision of America's grandeur, and the poetic beauty of the American landscape.

In essence, Wood was bringing his art directly to the people. He would take this concept further in the late 1940s, when he teamed up with an inexpensive art publishing house to mass produce prints. October Morn, one of his most successful prints, sold more than one million copies in less than two years.

In this manner, Robert Wood became one of the most famous, most widely published artists in America today. He ignored the art establishment and took his vision directly to the American public, from his early days of setting up up his easel in an ordinary San Antonio storefront, to selling his paintings out of department stores, to making low cost reproductions for the average citizen.

Label verso:
Marshall Field & Company Picture Galleries

Condition Report: Excellent condition

Shipping: Requires 3rd Party Shipping (view shipping information)
