There have been many words used to describe the play and leadership of Peter Forsberg. But the one word that comes to the forefront when describing the Hall of Fame skater is champion. Off the ice, his championship mentality shone when inspiring teammates with his preparation and approach to the game. On the ice, the moniker champion is a literal one as Forsberg was a key component in the Avalanche’s two runs to the Stanley Cup title. In 1995-96, he notched the first 100-point effort of his career after he finished fourth in the league with 86 assists. That season ended with Forsberg and his teammates hoisting the Cup. Five years later, he was sixth in assists and finished with 89 points. Again, the NHL season ended with the Avalanche capturing the Stanley Cup. He also led Sweden to gold medal finishes in two Olympic Games (1994, 2006) and two World Championships (’92, ’98). Despite the international success, Forsberg’s greatest success clearly came in Denver as he brought the city its first major sports championship. Always with his eyes on the prize, Forsberg is seen in this designed image ready to pounce on the puck and make an epic play with the snow-capped Rocky Mountains in the background.
