-Native American. A large, fairly straight-sided coiled bowl measuring 5” height, 12” across, and 9” base. The design consists of redbud and black bracken fern geometric diamonds and triangles on a plain willow base. There are 8 groups of rim ticks and a few (5) missing stitches around the rim. Also typical of Panamint basketry are the one-coil thick border outlines at rim and base. The basket is from the Saline Valley area of Death Valley, 40 miles north of Darwin, an area from which many excellent weavers have come—weavers such as Maggie Juaquin and her sister Sarah Hunter, Mamie Gregory and her younger sister Mary Wrinkle, and others.
