Pair of French Empire Gilt Brass Banquet Lamps
Item/Description: Pair of late Victorian, 19th-century French Empire-style banquet lamps originally produced as oil-burning "lampe a petrole". Constructed in gilt brass or bronze (ormolu), each lamp features repousse neoclassical ornamentation including acanthus leaves, scrolling foliage, and tiered tapered stems rising from ornate tripod bases with decorative feet. The bodies retain the structural form of their original oil reservoirs and columnar supports, now fitted with standard electrical sockets and wiring. These lamps reflect the luxury decorative metalwork typical of French interior lighting in the 1870s.
