Item/Description: Impressive verdigris bronze sculpture of a roaring lion, mounted on a rock and set upon a tall, antique wooden plinth by Gueret Freres. P. Lecourtier engraved into stone. Bronze features a beautiful green patina and the unpolished stone he stands on may be marble or jasper, as it has red and pick hues. Pedestal marked Gueret Freres, Rue Lafayette 216, Paris. (Lion Rugissant, Gueridon ,Church Pulpit, Lectern Base)
Prosper Lecourtier (French, 1851-1924) noted animalier sculptor who was a pupil of Emmanuel Fremiet, Lecourtier was known for his naturalistic and detailed animal representations.
