This is an authentic single knife blade war club tomahawk attributed to the Osage Native American Indians of Missouri and dating to circa 1870-1880. The piece came from the noted Midwest collector Ben Thompson’s collection. The tomahawk wood haft is artfully hand carved and crafted with elaborate brass tack designs and traces of old black paint. The middle section of the haft has attractive saw-tooth edged pewter inlays, a truly exceptional addition. The single 6 ½ inch long knife blade is inset into the haft and secured with an old nail and has minor corrosion and staining from age and use. The tomahawk war club shows a rounded, flat bottom end or pommel which features an open flower carved motif. The entire club has a nice, mellow patina. Similar clubs with the same art features can be seen in the Warnock Collection (Splendid Heritage) and Chandler-Pohrt collection. This is truly a fantastic, authentic war club of the Central Plains region and would be a wonderful addition to any early Native American weapons collection. Provenance: from the Ex-Collection of Ben Thompson and a historic weapons collection in the Southeast.
