These photographs are labeled on the back as "A Queen Of The Oaxaca Market Stalls" and "Saludos! in The Pueblo Of Zaachila". Otto John Gaul signed the matting outside these photographs with his name "Otto John Gaul A.R.P.S." (Associate Of Royal Photography Society).
Otto John Gaul was a photographer from Buffalo, New York. When he was twelve he became interested in photography and during his college years, he did part-time portraiture. During World War I he served as an aerial and topographical photographer abroad. Gaul was most famous for his black and white photographs. Otto John Gaul photographs are seldom seen on the market and are highly sought. The first photograph is of Native American woman selling tomatillos in a market place. The second photograph is of a woman smiling at the camera as she stands in the shade of a tree with her sheep. These photographs are professionally matted and framed. The photographs measures 9' x 7" in a frame that measures12 3/4" x 15 3/4". Their are chips to the frame but the photograph and matting show no signs of damage.
