This lot includes an oil on canvas signed A. Egle, 1960, untitled. Born in 1905, Arvids Egle was a creative visual artist predominantly influenced by the 1920s. The notable innovations established in the early years of the 20th century were developed further in the 1920s and 1930s. This period began the careers of many pioneering and inspiring practitioners in the pictorial arts. However it was a time of reflection following the horrors of the First World War, and major shifts in politics took place across the world. Egle's favourite genre was landscapes of small towns, and genre, portrait, and seascape, especially in the second half of the 1930s. This painting features a Southwestern scene. An adobe house with attached stable, a female figure wearing a serape, standing in front of the house. The mountains in the background are snow-covered, desert flora in the foreground including aloe plants.
